MLK Day of Service

For this year's MLK Day of Service, like last year, we've decided to do several smaller projects rather than one big project.  All projects will be on Saturday, January 16th.  Please read the details below and consider volunteering for one of the seven (7) following projects:
 
1) World Vision Distribution Center  *
Address: 11000 E. 40th Street, Denver 80239
Time: 1-4pm
Activity: Sort, inventory & package products for international relief
Pertinent Information: The age requirement to volunteer is 11 years of age, but they also welcome families who want to bring younger children as well.

2) Denver Church of Christ (Arvada Building) *
Address: 6925 S. Carr Street, Arvada  80004
Time: 9am-1pm
Activity: minor demolition in “bookstore” room; complete kitchen and storage clean out; apply wood polish & conditioner to all pews; painting in selected areas (TBD).
Pertinent Information: light snacks will be provided

3) There With Care
This project is no longer an option. The maximum number of volunteers has signed up.
 
4) Feeding the Homeless *
Address: 2301 Lawrence Street, Denver  80205 (Samaritan House)
Time: 11am-12noon
Activity: Preparing sack lunches and distributing them to the homeless population near downtown Denver
Pertinent Information: Each volunteer should provide/bring 10 sack lunches (suggested items for sack lunch: sandwich, small bag of chips/cookies, a piece of fruit & a small bottle of water).  Joan would be willing to have some volunteers come to her house (1679 S. Newton St, Denver 80218), at 9am, to help prepare the sack lunches.

5) Denver VA Medical Center
This project is no longer an option. The maximum number of volunteers has signed up. 
 
6) Ronald McDonald House (Denver Location)
Address: Two locations--1300 E. 21st Avenue, Denver  80205
Time: 10am-2pm
Activity: Cleaning, organizing & setting up items
Pertinent Information: For health reasons, no children under 12.  Please consider bringing one or several of the following wish list items--disinfectant wipes, toilet bowl cleaner, furniture polish, vacuum cleaners, paper towels, food containers for leftovers trash bags (13 and 30 gallon size), laundry detergent, bleach, white copy paper.

7) Ronald McDonald House (Aurora Location)
Address: Two locations--932 Potomac Circle, Aurora  80011
Time: 10am-2pm
Activity: Cleaning, organizing & setting up items
Pertinent Information: For health reasons, no children under 12.  Please consider bringing one or several of the following wish list items--disinfectant wipes, toilet bowl cleaner, furniture polish, vacuum cleaners, paper towels, food containers for leftovers trash bags (13 and 30 gallon size), laundry detergent, bleach, white copy paper.

8) Food & Fellowship for the Homeless (Boulder)
Address: 1001 Arapahoe Road, Boulder (Boulder County Library)
Time: 10:30am-12:00pm
Activity: Passing out sack lunches and having encouraging conversations with the homeless in Boulder
Pertinent Information: Meet in the parking lot of the Boulder County Library.  Volunteers will walk from the library along the Boulder Creek path and into downtown Boulder.  Please dress in warm attire and wear a HOPE t-shirt (if you have one).  The sack lunches (to be passed out) will be made ahead of time by the Boulder Young Professionals Ministry.

* Note: The first four projects are "kid-friendly" projects.  Children of all ages are welcome as long as they are supervised by a parent or responsible adult (18 or older).
 
Electronic sign-up.  Please click HERE  to sign-up for a project.  If you are signing up people other than yourself, please make sure they are aware so they don’t also sign-up (to ensure there are no "duplicate names/sign-ups”).  Please sign-up/submit names for any volunteers over the age of 11.
